Blizzard 1230 Mk IV Accelerator Board

The Blizzard A1230 Mk IV Accelerator Board from Phase 5 Technologies was a 68030 based CPU and memory upgrade for the Commodore Amiga A1200 that also provided a real time clock facility and an edge connector for future compatible expansion cards. The card effectively upgraded the stock A1200 from a 68EC020 running at 14MHz to a 68030 running at 50MHz with an optional 68882 floating point unit (FPU).

I've owned this accelerator board from new but added the 68882 FPU much later on in 2006. The battery was replaced in May 2011 with a genuine replacement part. The card also provides a RAM expansion facility using a 72 pin SIMM socket allowing a maximum SIMM size of 128MB to be added to the card.

The edge connector that can be seen in the photo above provided the ability to expand the accelerator even further with the addition of an optional Fast SCSI 2 controller card that added a second 72 pin SIMM socket thereby boosting the Amiga 1200's maximum memory to a total of 2MB Chip RAM and 256MB Fast RAM.

The images below show the original packaging for the Blizzard 1230 Mk IV accelerator card.
